A List of Services that Allow Teachers to Test a Document's Readability / Difficulty Level

There are a number of services that teachers can choose to display readability scores according to a variety of tests.

• Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Office Word - http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/word-help/test-your-document-s-readability-HP010148506.aspx - When Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Office Word finish checking the spelling and grammar, you can choose to display information about the reading level of the document, including readability scores according to a variety of tests. This web page shows readers how to activate this ability.
  
• Readability-Score - http://www.readability-score.com/ - This website provides various statistics about a text, including readability levels. These levels appear in a variety of formulae:

  --> Gunning-Fog Score 
  --> Coleman-Liau Index 
  --> SMOG Index 
  --> Automated Readability Index
  --> Average Grade Level
• Textalyser - features include the analysis of word groups, finding out the keyword density, analyse the prominence of word or expressions. Webmasters can analyse the links on their pages.
• http://dictionary.com - provides a "difficulty index" for each word in the English language. The index is located to the right of the page.  It qualifies words by indicating that "all / most / some / few English speakers likely know" the word in question. This perfectly matches the four levels taught at the CEGEP level.
• Jelly Metrics - similar to Readability-Score, this website provides various statistics about a text, including readability levels. These levels appear in a variety of formulae:
